Fake Job Offers in the name of Naukri.com

This is my 2nd instance of coming across a similar cyber fraud wherein a caller, claiming to be a Naukri.com associate, reaches out to a job seeker (a fresher out of college) and tells him that his resume has been shortlisted for one of the reputed IT firms (IBM and HCL in the 2 cases that I have come across). The caller then lures the victim into paying a small amount (ranging from 250 to 500) in the name of registering into the company's interview process. Since the amount is small and the job-seeker is desperate for a job, the victim readily agrees to it without sensing anything fishy about it; little knowing that this is the 1st step in the larger trap set ahead. After the first payment is made, the fraudster sets up a false telephonic interview with someone diaguising as HR/recruiter from the said firm. The interview is more like a formality which makes the candidate keep his belief in this entire process. Soon after this phony interview, the fraudsters make a request for another payment in the name of 1-year bond needed by the firm, claiming that this amount will be refunded by the firm upon joining. In my 1st case, the victim paid a sum of around 70000 in 3 instalments (saddened to think that he could not sense the fraud and made 3 payments, but such is the desperation for a job). After the payments were made, even after continuous follow ups, the fraudsters start to avoid taking calls from the victim and/or start suggesting the user to give up on the process since the company had rejected the candidate and the money is gone in the process. In one of the cases, the audacity of these fraudsters was so high that they even issued an offer letter in the name of IBM for a joining in Pune. However , when the candidate turned up on the scheduled date at IBM office in Magarpatta , he came to know about the fraud. There are few things that, if noted, would help the victim identify the fraud in this modus operandi. First, the letter of selection would be grammatically incorrect at many places. 2nd, while the fraudster claimed to be from Naukri.com,he was never using the proper web donain of Naukri.com. He kept on using gmail address to correspond through emails. Anyone could create an account with gmail.com with names like naukriforfuture@gmail.com naukricom@gmail.com naukridotcom@gmail.com , etc. 3rd - The request for payment would be to some random account/link. If this was to be genuine and for Naukri.com, it would follow a streamline transparent process from the naukri.com portal or issued in the name of authorised group owning Naukri.com (you may check the authorised entity for the firm you think you are making a payment to) 4th - With respect to a bond agreement within a firm, we need to understand that an individual just need to sign the bond (a promise that he would stay with the company for the agreed period else will have to pay a certain amount). The individual does not need to make a payment of any rupee to any account. I hope and pray this complaint helps someone in identifying such frauds and prevent him/her from falling prey to such traps. Would request others to leave comments if they have any similar experience or have some way of penalising these fraudsters so that others do not fall for it. Thanks.
