I got a call from this number " +917823938127" marked as Joe Desk, Chennai in TrueCaller with a tag of Bank.
This guy called me and asked me to confirm if I know a person. He said that the named person has applied for a HDFC loan and has given my name as a surety / reference. When I said I don't know the person, he mentions that we (person and me) are friends on Facebook and LinkedIn.
This spammer says that he'll approve the loan immediately on confirmation.
I contacted the person which the spammer mentioned and found out that they never had an account in HDFC and also did not apply for loan. By end of the day, I came to know that they got similar complaints from 3 other people. Luckily, no one confirmed/ accepted the call by the spammer.
HDFC should confirm if anyone with this number actually works with them and take necessary action.
